Desktop Computing Organization/Contacts Desktop Computing Services is staffed by more than 50 information technology professionals. These include LAN/WAN Architects, LAN Administrators and Desktop Technicians. In addition, the group employs software developers that work on projects for clients and for internal systems management. In order to provide a flexible set of services, as well as responsive service to the many sites served by the group, operational management of the group is led by the Manager of Desktop Computing Services for JHMI, and a Regional Desktop Manager. The sites managed by the regional Desktop Manager include Bayview, Homewood, White Marsh, Greenspring Station, Johns Hopkins at Eastern, and a number of satellite offices and clinics. Local Area Network / Wide Area Network Architects (LAN/WAN Architects for short) provide project management and leadership for a group of LAN Administrators and Desktop Technicians. LAN/WAN Architects have a good knowledge of the Johns Hopkins environment, understand the "big picture" of Hopkins networking, and are dedicated to making sure that clients get the right resources for the many automation projects and computer support they need. Contact information for each LAN/WAN Architect is found below: In order to provide highly responsive service and accountability for the large number of projects and client communities serviced by Desktop Computing Services, each project or user community is assigned a primary contact. This contact is either a LAN Administrator or Desktop/Network Technician. The number of users and projects assigned to each staff member is based on service needs and technical complexity. The group employs a variety of specialists. In addition to serving the needs of their user communities, these specialists provide expertise from which the group and the Hopkins technical community at large calls upon for support.
